Midvale City is one of the oldest cities in the Salt Lake Valley. Sharing many of its original begginings with West Jordan. People lived here long before it was a city, working at the mining, smelting, and other industries present in town. In 1909 when the city was incorporated, there was a contest held to select a name. From over 200 names entered, Midvale was chosen; submitted by the smelter clerk, Walter Smith.
There are historical markers at different key areas in Midvale. A testament to the past that marked this beautiful area as unique. These photographs show the Midvale Fort Union plaque, and historic downtown Midvale.
Lying picturesque at the bottom of both Big Cottonwood and Little Cottonwood Canyons, Midvale serves as a the gateway city to many different ski resorts, hiking, and camping areas located within these two canyons. Follow 7200 South past the Fort Union area and it will lead right up to these two key areas for the 'best snow on Earth'.
