Saturday Night Dance and Bingo Rules
In order to provide a safe and fun environment for everyone, it is important that these rules be followed by everyone. Parks & Recreation staff have the authority to remove or ask any individual to leave and suspend and/or expel any person from future dances if there rules are not followed.
1. Transportation to and from the dance must be arranged before each participant attends and will be picked up before or at the time the dance ends.
2. No fighting, pushing, swearing, verbally fighting, or running.
3. No smoking inside the building. If a participant leaves the building, they are responsible for themselves.
4. Every participant will dance appropriately (no lewd, rude, or suggestive movements).
5. Every participant will treat the bodies of others with respect (no lewd, rude, or suggestive gestures, touching, grabbing, etc).
6. No weapons of any kind.
7. Each participant will provide Salt Lake County Parks & Recreation with their potential problems and emergency contacts should they experience any difficulty at the dance i.e. medical, behavioral.
8. Not items from home brought to the dance (CD's, radios, toys, musical instruments) without prior approval. Salt Lake County Parks & Recreation is not responsible for lost/stolen/damaged items.
Guidelines for Socialization and Day Programs
The Adult Socialization and Day Programs are for adults who have mild disabilities. We are able to serve individuals who generally fit the following guidelines and who can abide by the following rules and regulations.
1. Participants must have a developed sense of self-sufficiency. This means that they are independent in basic living and social skills. Staffing is on a 1 staff to 10 participant basis. A chaperone may accompany those who are not independent or need more than the established staffing and will be charged the cost of any tickets or passes only. We may request that participants bring an assistant for certain activities if they are not independent in the area that the activity may require.
2. Participants should have the ability to drive, ride the bus, or provide their own transportation to and from activities.
3. Participants must adhere to the times posted for activities to begin and end. Staff intends to begin and end activities at their stated hour and cannot wait for individuals whose transportation is 15 minutes to an hour late because of other commitments. Staff is not responsible for clients who are dropped off before the noted meeting time. In addition, per Salt Lake County policy, clients picked up more than 15 minutes late will be charged a late fee of $5 per every 15 minutes. These fees must be paid before the client can attend the next activity.
4. Participants can administer their own medications without the assistance of others.
5. Participants must follow all rules and conduct for safety. This includes remaining with the group, following directions, etc.
6. Participants must come to the activity ready to participate. This includes sunscreen, bug repellent, water, proper attire. etc.
7. Participants will RSVP for each activity by the date requested (Adult Socialization Program).
Volunteer Opportunities
Adaptive Advisory Board
The Salt Lake County Parks & Recreation Adaptive Program utilized a volunteer citizen advisory board to help create programs, activities, and special events to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities. This is a non-profit board comprised of members from the community. They advise Parks & Recreation staff on issues and concerns, help fund scholarships for participation, make recommendations for improvements, and assist in developing public awareness, understanding and support for Parks & Recreation Programs. The board currently has opportunities for new board members. If you are interested in joining this board, please contact Bess at (801) 561-0075.
Program Volunteers
For most programs we offer, we welcome volunteers. Volunteers help our participants to have a better experience in our programs by providing more individualized attention and a chance to create other friendships. Volunteers need to be at least 14 (with parents permission if under 18) and be able to volunteer consistently during a program. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact (801) 561-0075.
